Teachers back on picket lines after getting Labour Day show of support

Teachers are back on the picket lines, after talks broke off over the weekend.
Officials with the Cowichan Valley and Nanaimo Ladysmith Districts are telling parents they’re not expecting anything to be resolved this week.
Meanwhile, BCTF locals were front-and-center at Labour Day events, as teachers got a show of support from other unions.
BC Government and Service Employees Union Executive Vice President Brenda Brown was among the union leaders offering support.
With the dispute at an impasse there are fresh calls for the premier to get involved from NDP leader John Horgan, and the BCTF’s Jim Iker. The premier has turned down Iker’s request for a meeting, but he says he’ll be getting in touch with the province’s chief negotiation today to try to get talks going again.
