Thanksgiving on BC Ferries; extra sailings and lots of walk-ons

If a long weekend getaway is in your plans, you can expect BC Ferries to be busy.

But, Darin Guenette of BC Ferries says Thanksgiving weekend is a bit unusual for them. They won’t see as many vehicles as they do on the busiest summer long weekends, but there are going to be a lot more walk-ons.

Guenette says a big reason for that is college and university students heading home. He also says it’s going to be busy on routes to places like Saltspring and the other Gulf Islands… where traffic won’t drop off until closer to Christmas.

Ferries has added 60 extra sailings. Most of them – 48 – are on the Swartz Bay – Tsawwassen route, but there’s around a dozen extra on the Nanaimo – Horseshoe Bay run.
