Cowichan Watershed Board wants Cow Bay to have edible shellfish by 2020

An associate director from the Northwest Indian College’s Salish Sea Research Center spoke in Duncan on Wednesday about the impact of clam gardens on local watersheds.
Skye Augustine says using ancient beach gardening methods could help restore the health of the Cowichan Estuary.
Augustine says the Cowichan Watershed Board has set a goal of having edible shellfish again in the Cowichan Bay by 2020.
She says since shellfish are bottom feeders, it’s a good sign the watershed is doing well if you can harvest and eat them.
