VIU’s whale skeleton ready for display

If your summer travels take you to Vancouver Island University’s Deep Bay Marine Field Station, don’t forget to look up!

Of course, that 10-metre long grey whale skeleton hanging in the atrium is kind of hard to miss.

It was unveiled recently, after thousands of hours spent repairing and articulating the bones.

72 year old Ken Magnus put about 700 volunteer hours into the project.

The whale washed up on a beach in Sooke in 2010, and buried nearby, then the skeleton was exhumed and donated to the Field Station.
