“Tree” meeting Monday

A group of concerned residents will have a chance to share their opinions with elected officials, surrounding the future of a maple tree at the Island Savings Centre.
Many residents were upset when they heard plans to chop the tree down as part of a plan for parking lot improvements, saying the tree was an important part of Duncan. One woman even went as far as to chain herself to the tree.
Community Services Manager John Elzinga says the CVRD has promised not to take action surrounding the tree until after the community meeting.
The parking lot redesign will start in other areas.
The CVRD says the meeting will provide a forum for roundtable discussions with residents to hear their concerns and for staff to provide an overview of the lifecycle of the maple tree, as well as an update on the parking lot project/
The meeting will be at the Island Savings Centre on Monday at 5:30pm.
