Council approves 1.2 million dollar deal for intersection work in Duncan

A contract for more than a million dollars worth of work on the intersection of Canada Avenue and Ingram has been given the go-ahead by Duncan City Council.

But, mayor Phil Kent says the City is also making some changes as it waits for a sign-off from Southern Rail; The work could require changes to the railroad tracks.

Kent says the contract approved this week also includes a mid June target to have the work done in order to minimize disruption.

City staff say there were 21 accidents at the intersection between 2009 and 2013, including 10 where people were injured — as well as countless “close calls”.
