Canada’s Truth and Reconciliation Commission delivers its report Tuesday.
The report will be a 300 page summary to start, with several volumes to follow outlining the abuses of the residential school system.
Doug White is a former First Nation chief and current Director of Vancouver Island University’s Centre for Pre-Confederation Treaties and Reconciliation.
He says it’s now widely acknowledged residential schools were involved in cultural genocide, and he hopes the Commission will kick start efforts to reverse it
White says true reconciliation will not be easy work… especially since the impact of the residential school system continues, even though the schools themselves are closed.
