Drought-like conditions continue to cause concern in the Cowichan Valley.

North Cowichan is one of several municipalities under Stage 2 watering restrictions. As a result, it may come as a surprise to see the Sherman Road soccer fields watered on a daily basis.

However, Mayor Jon Lefebure says letting the fields die would be a big financial burden. In addition, he says it’s different then watering a regular lawn.

Meanwhile, a low streamflow advisory has been issued for the Koksilah, Chemainus and Cowichan rivers.

Dave Campbell speaks for BC’s River Forecast Centre.

Campbell says low snow packs over the winter combined with early warm and dry conditions are the reasons behind the low levels.
