Local flood control project enters final stage
The final stage of a major flood control project is underway in the Cowichan Valley.
Construction has started on a dike beside the Cowichan River close to Duncan’s Silver Bridge and work is set to start soon in North Cowichan as well.
North Cowichan mayor and CVRD chair Jon Lefebure says knocking down some trees near the river had to happen to make sure that people’s homes can be protected.
The CVRD, North Cowichan, Duncan, and Cowichan Tribes are working together on the multi-million dollar project after flooding was a big issue in 2008 and 2009.
