Safe boating channel for Cowichan Bay

Boaters, trying to navigate through all the anchored vessels in Cowichan Bay will soon have a navigational channel to use.

That’s if the agencies involved can raise the 84 hundred dollars to purchase the necessary bouys to mark the channel.

The CVRD’s area director for the community is Lori Ianidinardo …..

Iannidinardo says that’s to buy a dozen Transport Canada bouys to mark the channel from the boat launch all the way around the outside of the marina so there’s enough space for the safe passage of two boats.

She says some of the anchored boats in the channel will be displaced but it will be worth it.

The new channel will also protect the eelgrass in the bay which gets chewed up by boat motors.
