Green party leader visits Duncan

Elizabeth May spoke on the historic COP21 Paris Agreement, negotiated last December, at an event in Duncan hosted by the Cowichan Watershed Board and Vancouver Island University.

May touched on local discussions including the dumping of contaminated soil near Shawnigan Lake. She says she is encouraged by the most recent court ruling to stop moving soil onto the site, and inspired by the persistence of local communities to protect their water.

The Green Party Leader added she’s proud of her provincial counterpart Dr. Andrew Weaver for getting to the issue early and finding the evidence that, he says is contaminating the water supply.
