Our operating debt is gone

The Minister of Finance has released the Province’s second quarterly report.

Carole James says our economy is strong, our debt to GDP ratio improve and our operating debt has been eliminated.

She says the labour market, however, is presenting challenges.

“At the same time, British Columbia continues to face a constrained labour force. Our job vacancy rate is tied for the highest among the provinces and our unemployment rate has been the lowest in the country for 15 months. That presents real challenges for employers.”

James says there are not enough available workers to fill the vacant positions so the province will continue to make investments in training, education, childcare and making sure there’s housing available in communities where people work.
