Wildfire smoke is forecast to continue creating hazy conditions over southern Vancouver Island and the Southern Gulf Islands today.
Winds are carrying smoke from fires in Washington State and elsewhere in the province.
The Bolt Creek Fire in Washington State flared up Saturday sending additional smoke to the region.
On Saturday afternoon, Environment Canada issued a Smoky Skies Bulletin for Duncan, Ladysmith, Shawnigan Lake, the Southern Gulf Islands, Saanich Peninsula and Greater Victoria.
As of 6 am this morning (Sunday), the Air Quality Health Index monitoring station in Duncan reached 9, or very high. In Nanaimo, it had climbed to 8.
Air quality is expected to improve by late morning.
For today and tonight, the Air Quality Health Index forecast for east Vancouver Island north to the Comox Valley is 4, which is considered moderate.
Environment Canada says consider taking precautions because this smoke consists of particles and gases which includes many chemicals that can harm your health.
