The Independent Investigations Office says it’s looking into the deaths of two people after “contact” with RCMP in the area.
One case happened July 17th, and involves North Cowichan/Duncan RCMP. The other happened on Salt Spring Island July 20th.
The IIO isn’t saying what sort of contact the people had with RCMP, only that in both cases police were responding to calls.
The IIO says right now their focus is trying to find out if there’s any possible connection between the deaths and what happened with police.
They’ll decide after that if full investigations are called for.
